Black Rhino Music presents Skeptical (UK) / 26.10

First time we have invited Skeptical at Subsonic Festival. After five years we say it's about time to hear his music again in Bucharest.

Skeptical (Exit / Soul:R / Metalheadz - UK)

As a DJ and producer whose natural passion for music in all its forms eventually spilled over into a full blown production habit, Skeptical has been responsible for some of the most damaging yet delicate tracks within the current Drum & Bass genre.

Skeptical made his mark with "Blue Eyes EP" on Ingredients Records in 2011 and has since had a slew of impeccable releases on highly esteemed imprints such as Dispatch, Metalheadz, Soul:r and Exit Records. Exit Records became the home for "Marka", a collaboration with Dub Phizix and Strategy which went on to being a cross genre track and a DJ pick for any dancefloor worldwide while racking millions of views on YouTube. Most recently Skeptical’s releases schedule with Exit has been steady flowing with releases such as "Imperial" and "Outset" EP. Not shy of collaborating, Skeptical is 1/5 of collective group "Module Eight" made up of producers dBridge, Kid Drama, Loxy and Resound. Module Eight is a project of likeminded producers with no real aim but to have fun making music. It has resulted in an album being released called "Legacy". His collaboration track "Move Way" with dBridge was released on the legendary R&S Records and was the first Drum & Bass track to come out on the record label since the year 2000. His work with various labels across the globe has seen him remix tracks from a wide range of producers such as Jubei and Jamaican reggae musician Sizzla.

Skeptical is known for his technical DJ-ing abilities and has travelled the world to places such as Europe, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Asia. His DJ sets have been heard in some of the most well known clubs and festivals worldwide.

Black Rhino Music presents Compa (UK) / 28.09

Black Rhino Music's next residency in club Expirat welcomes Compa (UK) with local support from WRK and Vru Dubz. For this session the sound will be powered by Irie Warriors Sound System.

Compa (UK)

Following his debut appearance on Get Darker TV in March 2011, Compa released his inaugural 12" single with one of Dubstep's foundation imprints Boka Records (Tracks "Sentence" and "Beginning"), and his infamous bootleg of Mavado’s "Dem A Talk" which sold out worldwide within one week of its release, and at the tender age of just 21, he's newly signed to Mala's Deep Medi Musik label, perhaps the most revered seal of approval in underground Dubstep circles.

The Compa sound has received acclaim from across the board with key influences like BBC 6 Music's Gilles Peterson & Nerm showing praise, as well as MistaJam, Toddla T and B-Traits on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, not forgetting J:Kenzo, Jay 5ive, Plastician and N-Type amongst others on the prestigious Rinse FM. Tracks have even found their way into the record bags of scene pioneers Chase & Status (Ram, Mercury, Renegade Hardware), US Dubstep ambassador, Joe Nice (Dub War, Reconstrvct) and of course Mala (Deep Medi, DMZ) who has now signed Compa to his seminal Deep Medi Musik label.

In addition to performances in the Netherlands, Croatia, Belgium, Portugal, Germany, Czech Republic, Turkey, Poland, Estonia, Greece, China and India, Compa has also toured Sweden, Canada and North America twice-over since the start of 2012.

...and yet despite his tour schedule and between studio time, you can still hear Compa play live on Sub FM once a month, Monday 18:00-20:00 GMT.

He is a founding member of the oldest group of promoters and DJs from Târgu Mureș (Romania), LBC Kru. Alongside them he was responsible for organizing the first electronic music parties in his hometown, and later, in the early 2000s the event series "Fundamental Breaks" that brought to the city the most renowned drum & bass and breakbeat DJs from all over the country of the time. He started DJ-ing in 2003, and after getting a residency in the local club Avi-Cola, played warm-up and after sets with Rapala for a series of exclusive nights promoting all varieties of broken beats. Ever since, he's been an active member of the movement, playing mostly bass heavy music, from deeper dubstep to the more forward thinking electronic beats and occasionally old school 2step and garage

Ragga Twins & DJ Krucial (UK) / 09.11

Thursday 09.11. 9PM

Crucial cogs in the development of U.K. dance music, the Destouche brothers - Trevor, aka Flinty Badman, and David, aka Deman Rocker - became known as MCs as part of North London's Unity sound system and began operating as the Ragga Twins in 1989.

Through 1992, they issued a pile of 12" singles through the self-named label run by Shut Up & Dance along with the album „Reggae Owes Me Money” (1991).

These releases, containing tracks like „Illegal Gunshot,” „Spliffhead” and an early featured role on Shut Up & Dance's „Lamborghini”, were bold steps forward, fiercely energetic mutations of dancehall, hip-hop, and jungle.

Resurfacing in 1995 on EMI with relatively conservative US3-produced releases like „Freedom Train” and „Money”, they also put together a second album, „Rinsin’ Lyrics” (1995). Scattered singles appeared during the early 2000s, and in 2008 the Soul Jazz label compiled „Ragga Twins Step Out”, which focused on the Shut Up & Dance era.

In 2008 the Twins lent their vocals to the Backdraft single, „Rock the Mic”. In 2010 they were featured on Mason and the Fraudster's track „U Appear”. Flinty Badman & Deman Rocker appeared in the Plan B crime film „Ill Manors” in 2012. In 2014, they featured on „All is Fair in Love and Brostep” and „Ragga Bomb” from Skrillex's debut album „Recess” and „Zipper” from MUST DIE!'s album „Death & Magic”. In 2008, Soul Jazz Records issued a compilation album of their early 1990s recordings (notably their collaborations with production team/label Shut Up and Dance) entitled „Ragga Twins Step Out”.
