We begin the new season in Expirat with a joint event along with our friends from Samurai Music. Head honcho Presha, will come along with Clarity and The Untouchables, two names representative for Samurai Music. Black Rhino Music will be represented by Low Freq and Fane.

Words about Clarity:

Bristol-based Owen Brown aka Clarity has rapidly become one of the names to watch in the current drum and bass scene. Having stumbled upon drum and bass music at the age of 14, within two years Clarity managed to write music that was immediately supported by top names like dBridge, Doc Scott, Loxy, Jubei, Skeptical and Grooverider. Inevitable signings to respected labels followed swiftly with imprints such as Med School, Samurai Music, Cylon, Horizons, and dBridges' mighty Exit Records label stepping up to launch the Clarity name and sound proudly to the world.

Words about Presha:

Internet, radio, and nightclub DJ, event promoter, distributor, record label owner and artist mentor, Geoff Wright aka Presha's list of accomplishments and roles within the music industry is immense. Even more impressive is that he has been a forerunner in each of these disciplines, firmly entrenching himself within the sonic architecture of electronic music culture worldwide. Through his Samurai Music, Red Seal & Horo record labels, his many radio shows over the years, club sets, & events promotion companies, Presha served as a guiding hand in the growth and development of the New Zealand scene and assisted heavily in establishing the international export of artists such as Tokyo Prose, Fis, State of Mind, Trei, and Dose amongst others. 2011 saw an indefinite relocation to Europe, a move essential to the expansion and longevity of both the Samurai Music labels and his devotion to the art of DJing. From his adopted home in Berlin, Presha made 2012-2017 the busiest years to date for the Samurai Music group of labels with high profile releases from the artist stable including Calibre, Marcus Intalex, Dub Phizix & Skeptical, Loxy & Resound, ENA, ASC, Tokyo Prose, Ruffhouse, Clarity and many more.

Words about Low Freq:

Based in Bucharest, Codin Orășeanu aka Low Freq is present on the music scene for over 15 years. Music producer, DJ and promoter, Low Freq combines elements of bass music with strong industrial synths, continuously searching to explore the sound. Over time Low Freq has been a part of groups such as Blanoz, Shadowbox while in 2014 he started the band Dream Diggers. Alongside Dani, Low Freq is also operator for Irie Warriors Soundsystem. 2017 is the year Codin Orășeanu formed Black Rhino Music.

Words about Fane:

Fane is a DJ, music producer and promoter of the atmospheric and militant style of half-step drum and bass. With a strong passion for the dancefloor, Fane's productions are oriented through punchy drums and heavy basslines. Former co-host off the Step In Sessions at Groove On Radio, Fane also launched the Nu Doar Bass online platform where, over time, he presented a series of 170 bpm guest mixes. In 2017 Fane joined Low Freq to be a part of the Black Rhino Music project.

Electrocord pres. The Qemists (DJ Set - UK) / 08.02

The Qemists - DJ set (UK)
Thursday, 08.02. 10PM
#KingSize drinks, all night long

The Qemists are, in many ways, something of a qonundrum. They’re rock kids seduced by the dancefloor, dance kids equally happy playing live instruments or building tracks on the computer, drum & bass aficionados who believe their hurtling breakbeats sound best under big muscular metallic guitar riffs.

On paper, such a sound clash seems like a train wreck in the making. However, pumped as loud as your speakers will allow, or booming through the PA at one of their live shows, The Qemists make glorious sense. Their fearless genre-mashing has already garnered them a sizeable following across the globe, scoring a previous number one album in Japan and playing to audiences of over half a million people in Poland.

The New Album “Warrior Sound” has seen the band grow from three to five members, but The Qemists also continue to broaden their sound by teaming up with a diverse range of artists, including Hacktivist on the brilliant up-tempo anthem Jungle. The album also features collaborations with Japanese metallers, Crossfaith, whose singer Kenta Koie features on Anger and UK grime MC Ghetts on No Respect.
Now a band of five brothers – Dan Arnold, Bruno Balanta, Liam Black, Leon Harris and Olly Simmons, The Qemists are a real live tour de force. Proof of this has been seen on recent tours with Korn and Enter Shikari & Crossfaith and one off shows with the likes of Skindred, and stand-out festival performances at Download, Breakout and Butserfest.

The band are now primed and ready to unleash their latest album, Warrior Sound, which binds their respective influences & styles together naturally into one progressively cohesive and solid sound. In short, The Qemists have finally arrived.

Supporting line-up: Brusten & IVN

Brusten started his activity related to the bass music movement in 2008, in Coolcat Club where he organised a series of weekly events called Blast. In 2008 he also became a resident DJ at the events held in Fabrica. His first productions came out in 2011, extending now with many new releases outside the country and many more remixes for various artists. His tunes were broadcast on BBC Radio1 Xtra, DJ Mag, Bassdrive,, Radio Guerrilla and several other podcasts such as Cranium Sessions by Amoss and so on.

In 2012 he founded a radio show at Radio Romania - Radio3Net (alongside Tremour, Adrian Jumuga). The show had the purpose of promoting quality bass music producers and DJs (mainly from Romania).

Currently he is focused on collaborating with Hangout Music, where he is the main representative of The Grey Division. For this year, they have prepared a compilation of 10 tracks, a vinyl release, several digital releases and some events to showcase their signature sounds.
In parallel, he is the host of #bucharestpressure sessions. A series of monthly events promoting only quality sounds, in order to keep the underground scene alive.

IVN is a young Bucharest artist which was a pleasant surprise for the listeners back in 2014, when he emerged. Having managed to conquer the audience with a mix of different styles, combining in a special way all genres of drum & bass, he is creating a personal story through music. He appeared on stage in 2014 at Arena Dnb with artists such as Koven, Roksonix, Inflex, DJ Snow. Over the years he has been on stage with artists such as TC, Rene LaVice, My Nu Leng.

Black Rhino Music presents Skeptical (UK) / 26.10

First time we have invited Skeptical at Subsonic Festival. After five years we say it's about time to hear his music again in Bucharest.

Skeptical (Exit / Soul:R / Metalheadz - UK)

As a DJ and producer whose natural passion for music in all its forms eventually spilled over into a full blown production habit, Skeptical has been responsible for some of the most damaging yet delicate tracks within the current Drum & Bass genre.

Skeptical made his mark with "Blue Eyes EP" on Ingredients Records in 2011 and has since had a slew of impeccable releases on highly esteemed imprints such as Dispatch, Metalheadz, Soul:r and Exit Records. Exit Records became the home for "Marka", a collaboration with Dub Phizix and Strategy which went on to being a cross genre track and a DJ pick for any dancefloor worldwide while racking millions of views on YouTube. Most recently Skeptical’s releases schedule with Exit has been steady flowing with releases such as "Imperial" and "Outset" EP. Not shy of collaborating, Skeptical is 1/5 of collective group "Module Eight" made up of producers dBridge, Kid Drama, Loxy and Resound. Module Eight is a project of likeminded producers with no real aim but to have fun making music. It has resulted in an album being released called "Legacy". His collaboration track "Move Way" with dBridge was released on the legendary R&S Records and was the first Drum & Bass track to come out on the record label since the year 2000. His work with various labels across the globe has seen him remix tracks from a wide range of producers such as Jubei and Jamaican reggae musician Sizzla.

Skeptical is known for his technical DJ-ing abilities and has travelled the world to places such as Europe, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Asia. His DJ sets have been heard in some of the most well known clubs and festivals worldwide.

Kukilla (Astronaut Kru Sound System)

Kukilla caught the electronic music bug since 1997 and 10 years later he started playing with sound, mixing and layering the foundations of Astronaut Kru Sound System (Romania's loudest and most active free sound system), alongsie his friend Burner Greene.
In his mixes you can hear genres like Dub, Jungle, Drum & Bass, Neurofunk, Metalcore, Techno, Breaks, all with a dynamic and surprising result. Besides playing in Prague, Zurich, Copenhagen or Paris, he traveled the country far and wide, played at indoor parties and outdoor festivals and raves almost every weekend for the past 9 years. In the most unconventional locations he shared the rigs of various events with Black Sun Empire, Noisia, State Of Mind, The Qemists, Audio, Klute, The Prototypes, DLR, Smooth, Trei, Zombie Cats, TC, B-Complex, Komatik, Logistics, Big Bud, Amit, Soul Intent, Jay Rome, Funsta MC, Terry T, Psychofreud, Submorphics, DJ Chap, Elite Force, Overlook, Gridlok, and many more.

Toben (Conspired Within Music / Freenetik Kru)

Toben is a music producer and DJ from Arad, Romania, who arose into producing Drum & Bass after 6 years of extensive DJ-ing as part of the Freenetik Kru and Bass Invaders that also reside in Romania. Since 2012, Toben has played shows and events with many talented and veteran artists alike. Toben in the last few years has been devoted to experimenting with somber sounds with the added touch of Jungle vibes. Being dedicated to the sound, he never settles for anything specific when producing, but rather opens the barriers to his artistic creativity. Being highly influenced by experimental music, ambiental, techno and other flavors of the scene, his styles are versatile in the studio as well as the DJ sets he plays.
His next releases are scheduled in the next few months so keep an eye out for them.
